WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT PHYSIOTHERAPY

FOR WHAT REASONS MIGHT ONE CONSULT A PHYSIOTHERAPIST?

We recommend that you consult at a physiotherapy clinic if you are experiencing limitations in your daily activities, whether at work, in the sport you play, or in your leisure activities. This limitation may be caused by physical pain, numbness, a lack of strength, reduced mobility, or other issues.

It should be known that it is not necessary to obtain a medical prescription to consult at a physiotherapy center.

Our physiotherapists will develop a treatment plan tailored to the type of pain. You can consult for acute or chronic pain (persisting for more than three months)

If you are dealing with musculoskeletal pain (often associated with movement or posture), we recommend that you consult a physiotherapy clinic as soon as possible to allow us to analyze the origin of the pain, provide treatment as needed, and give you recommendations to prevent worsening or other secondary issues such as loss of mobility, compensations, etc.

Here are some examples of conditions that we treat in physiotherapy:

  • Ligament or muscle tear
  • Back pain
  • Slipped disc
  • Sprain
  • Sciatic nerve pain
  • Postural problem
  • Capsulitis
  • Tendinitis
  • Bursitis
  • Calcium deposit
  • Fracture
  • Neck pain
  • Plantar fasciitis and heel spur
  • Joint pain
  • Preparation for surgery and convalescence
  • Headaches (tension headache or of cervical origin)
  • Sports injuries
  • Dizziness and lightheadedness
  • All types of musculoskeletal injuries

WHAT PHYSIOTHERAPY APPROACHES ARE USED AT PHYSIO-OSTEO?

Depending on the results of the assessment conducted by your physiotherapist, as well as your condition and goals, several treatments are possible. Here are the main approaches used at our physiotherapy clinic:

  • Manual therapy
Your physiotherapist uses manual techniques such as joint mobilization, myofascial mobilization (muscles and fascia), and the release of scar tissue adhesions.
  • Neuroproprioceptive or sports taping
Your physiotherapist may also opt for functional taping which will help in your mobility. Taping can be done for different reasons such as activating or relaxing a muscle, as well as postural correction. Taping will be done initially by the physiotherapist, but can also be taught to be done at home.
  • Home Exercise Program
Your physiotherapist will offer you a personalized program that is established based on the deficits noted during the assessment, your goals, and your daily routine. The program may include strengthening exercises, mobility work, movement re-education, or relaxation techniques. Your physiotherapist will correct the execution of the exercises that you can then replicate at home. The program containing explanations and images of the exercises will be sent to you by email.
  • Aquatherapy
Your physiotherapist will offer you pool exercises through group sessions as well as a personalized exercise program following an initial individual assessment meeting.

CAN ONE EXPERIENCE PAIN AFTER PHYSIOTHERAPY TREATMENT?

In most cases, there should not be an increase in pain after physiotherapy treatment. In certain situations, it is possible to experience pain that would be caused by normal responses following specific interventions. In such situations, your physiotherapist will warn you about the expected reactions and each treatment will be carried out with your consent.

Sometimes, the first session can cause temporary irritations due to the assessment that is necessary to identify dysfunctional structures and establish an accurate treatment plan.

Ultimately, it's important to understand that responses to treatment can vary from one individual to another, and that's why your physiotherapist will ask you about your reaction following the first session and will adjust the treatment accordingly.
